Challenge Record PRO HTU 22
Challenge Record PRO tires are good choice for racing purposes, but the 300tpi thread has the advantages on normal urban conditions too. Thread count plays a major role in the weight, suppleness and durability. The higher the number of threads per inch (TPI), the thinner each individual thread, making a thinner and lighter casing and a more supple tire. Tubeless tires are made for better riding quality thanks to the loss of the inner tube's weight. On the other hand it has a lower chance to puncture than the tires with inner tubes. Challenge is using an extra layer called Puncture Protection Strip (PPS) in their products, to reduce the risk of punctures. In this specific product there is two of these layers, because of the suspected intense use.
Handmade tubulars are non-vulcanized. It will avoid the heat and pressure process called vulcanization, which most tires undergo in production. It is used to bind the materials but compromises the ride quality when the rubber gets stiffer. Treads are hand-glued onto Challenge Tubulars and Open Tubulars, and the latex and rubber maintain their ideal quality.
